Fire Rages in the Sequoias with the KNP Complex Fire

The KNP Complex Fire was ignited by lightning on the night of September 9. The complex is comprised of the Paradise Fire and the Colony Fire.

Sequoia National Park is closed to the public. Kings Canyon is currently open, but consult the official SEKI NP website and social media channels for latest updates.

As of this morning, September 17, 2021, Southern Area Blue Team Operations Sections Chief Jon Wallace provides a morning update on the KNP Complex fire including his description of 5 crews that are currently working in the Giant Forest as a primary objective to stop fire from entering the great strand of Sequoias.

The foothills near Ash Mountain and Three Rivers remain a priority and Cal Fire is using dozers to clear lines to protect those communities.

Structure protection is a priority at Lodgepole including employee housing for the National Park Service.

The KNP Complex has been a full suppression incident since the discovery of the smoke the morning following the lightning storm.
