Veterans Day in Sequoia and Kings Canyon

In observation of Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11 is a fee-free day at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.

Congress, by public law 441, made the General Grant Tree a National Shrine on March 29, 1956. Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, personal representative of the President of the United States, officially dedicated this tree on November 11, 1956 as a perpetual shrine to our nation’s veterans, during a special ceremony at the base of the tree. It is the only living monument ever designated in America.

Thank you to all of our nation’s service members, veterans, and military families for everything you have given to protect the future of all Americans.
